Andy and Barney Replaced with Social Workers in an Upcoming Andy Griffith Show Reboot

CBS recently announced the upcoming remake of the Andy Griffith Show will feature the replacement of Andy and Barney with two social workers in order to bring the classic series up to speed with the 21st century. Producers at CBS have also made several other changes to the show's structure to make it more inclusive and less offensive to many of today's viewers.

In a bid to the feminist movement, the mayor and one of the social workers will be female. The male social worker will keep the name Barney, with the new lead female character being renamed Andie. Having male characters in positions of authority have long turned away many of today's viewers and with the upcoming changes, CBS hopes to clear the name of the Andie Griffith Show. Alongside this major change, CBS has announced many other noteworthy alterations to include: removing any reference to the Constitution, Bill of Rights, firearms, and American flag. It has also been rumored that the Protestant church portrayed in the original series will be replaced with a secular humanist affiliation.

Television networks have announced they will stop airing the original Andy Griffith Show and replace it with the new CBS reboot. The pilot episode of the new series is scheduled to be broadcast on March 8th 2021, with the first season planned for 2022.
